Sustainability Leader and Advisor
Ann Duffy is the Corporate Sustainability Officer for the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games (VANOC). She is the architect of VANOC's approach to planning, management, and reporting on the Games' environmental, social, economic, and legacy performance. Her collaborations have led to innovative supply chain initiatives for sponsors and partners, and created transfer-of-knowledge resources for sport event organizers and future host cities. She is VANOC's media spokesperson for sustainability and advisor to the Olympic Movement.
Ann's 25-year career has focused on engaging people and organizations ready to take the next step with key stakeholders in their operations and beyond. A frequent speaker, Ann profiles trends and insights from her experience with ambitious organizations—large and small—on progress toward realizing extraordinary goals.
She is an advisor to the Global Reporting Initiative and the Canadian Standards Association, and is a board member of the International Centre for Sustainable Cities and The Natural Step Canada.
Before joining VANOC, Ann was Vice President, Sustainable Development with CH2M HILL Canada, a national project delivery firm. She established the national practice—Sustainable Enterprise Solutions—for public and private sector clients and led the firm's accountability program involving performance reporting, training, and development. Previously, she operated her own practice and worked internationally for the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) based in Switzerland.
Born in Alberta and raised in Quebec, Ann graduated from the University of Calgary with a Master of Communications Studies and from the University of Guelph with a degree in Human Geography and Environmental Studies. She currently resides in Vancouver where she enjoys the great outdoors and local culture scene with friends and family.
